FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What qualifications are required?
A BSc or BEng in Electrical Engineering from a recognised South African tertiary institution is required. You must either be in your final year of study or have already completed the degree. A minimum cumulative academic average of 65% or above is a hard requirement, verified via your attached academic transcript.
Who can apply?
South African citizens only — citizenship is a non-negotiable requirement. You must have 12 months or less of total working experience. Candidates with more than 12 months of formal engineering work experience do not qualify for this graduate intake. You must also be willing to work in any South African province as project needs require — provincial flexibility is a stated condition of the programme.
Is work experience required?
No formal experience is required — and in fact, a maximum of 12 months is permitted. This programme is specifically designed for new or near-qualifying graduates entering the engineering workforce for the first time. Vacation work or short project exposure during studies is acceptable within the 12-month cap.
How do I apply?
Click the Apply button to be redirected to the official Hatch careers portal. Upload your updated CV and your most recent full academic transcript — both are required. No closing date is specified; apply before 30 June 2026 to ensure you're considered for the 2026 programme intake.
Is there career growth after the graduate programme?
Yes — significantly. Hatch's graduate programme is a direct pipeline into professional engineering roles. Graduates progress toward ECSA registration as Professional Engineers or Technologists, and can advance to Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, Project Engineer, and Engineering Manager roles within Hatch. Hatch's global network across 150 countries also opens pathways to international project roles in Mining, Energy, Digital, and Infrastructure — making this one of the highest-potential graduate entry points in South African engineering consulting.
